Long-Distance WitnessingAn India TV Ministry Story
Hear Sister Jaya share this story and other powerful testimonies herself.
“I made a big mistake,” cried a woman on the other end of the phone.
Sister Jaya works for the India TV ministry as part of the prayer team. Whenever someone watches a program and calls the number on screen, Sister Jaya or one of the other prayer team ladies will answer. Throughout the day and even at night, Sister Jaya spends an average of eight hours daily answering viewers’ questions, praying with them, and giving Bible studies. Most of the callers live many hours from Sister Jaya’s home, so she does all her Bible studies and prayers over the phone.
The woman who called on this particular day had previously connected with Sister Jaya through the TV ministry. She had come from a protestant background but knew almost nothing about what the Bible says. Mrs. Jaya had studied some with her a while back.
The woman continued with sincerity, “You gave me Bible studies; you told me about Jesus, but I never responded to it. I made a huge mistake.”
She explained that despite her protestant background, she had given her daughter, Rajani, to be married to a Hindu man, and things had turned out terribly. Their marriage was bitter, and their lives became so miserable that they separated. Rajani, with her young child, moved back in with her mother.
(Editor’s note: Marriage is highly valued in India, and with a higher number of women than men in the church, inter-religious marriage is not uncommon.)
“Now my whole life is ruined,” the mother despaired to Sister Jaya. “I need to ask God to forgive me for turning away from Him, for not listening to your Bible studies, or obeying God’s word.”
Sister Jaya consoled the mother and offered to give Bible studies to both her and Rajani, which they gladly accepted.
Since they had many holes in their spiritual education, they pretty much started from scratch. They studied the Ten Commandments, the Sabbath, and the three angels’ messages. They studied how the Bible was written and by whom, who inspired the Bible and how long it took to write it. Rajani and her mother had many questions, and they went through them all over the next three to four years.
While they were studying together, Sister Jaya wanted to connect Rajani and her mother to a local Adventist church in their area, so she gave her an address and some instructions.
“I said, if you go to this place, there will be a Seventh-day Adventist school, and next door is a Seventh-Day Adventist church,” Sister Jaya shared. “Go there on the Sabbath day and give the phone to the pastor; I will talk to the pastor, and I will connect you with him.”
They followed her instructions and started to attend.
The India TV ministry is a high-impact project that often does not receive enough donations to cover operating expenses. By God's grace, underfunded projects like this one are able to keep running through donations made toward our Where Needed Most fund, which fills any gaps in funding each month.
From now until the end of the year, all gifts to Where Needed Most will be doubled up to $250,000. For every $1 given, $2 will go into the work to support projects like the India TV ministry.
