Oma Walks Again

Written by Ramon Tengkano

Ramon, with his family and a small team of missionaries, runs a satellite television ministry in Indonesia. They use lifestyle topics like health and family to share Jesus practically in a society that is not always friendly to the Gospel.

Oma is a 65-year-old widow living by herself but near her children. She was very dependent on others’ care. During the past decade, Oma had two strokes, which left her disabled. For a few years, her granddaughter Teresa fed and bathed Oma and occasionally wheeled her around the village. Oma often murmured, unhappy to spend most of her time in bed. She was only excited when Teresa came to spend time and care for her.

In 2021, Teresa had to move away to continue her education, leaving Oma alone. Our JFA Bible Worker, Fadhlan*, visited her. He shared with her the hope of salvation in Jesus Christ and how she could have a fulfilled life in Him despite her current situation.

While Fadhlan told Oma about Jesus, he shared the Gospel with others in Oma’s village. Every night, he and his family gathered the village children to sing, eat, read books, and learn about Jesus. Slowly, a small group started to form. Every Sabbath, they gathered to sing and study God’s Word. Oma attended whenever someone was available to take her.

After she started attending the small group, the Holy Spirit moved Oma to take action regarding her health condition. She asked the Lord to restore not only her spirit but also her physical strength. Fadhlan helped her find our satellite television channel, where she watched many health messages.

A program Oma and Fadhlan watched together one evening told them something that could benefit her condition: hot and cold treatments. They all decided to give it a try.

Fadhlan prepared everything the following day and told Oma, “You have to believe that God will heal you. This treatment is only secondary to His power to heal. Believe, and you will be healed.” Oma underwent the simple treatment, and Christ completely healed her that afternoon! She rose from her wheelchair and started walking. They were all excited and in tears. Fadhlan and his family could not believe what they witnessed. The whole village was surprised to see her walking around the streets, smiling.

Oma is still fighting several health issues like high blood pressure and digestive problems, but she’s happily doing her chores now without anyone’s assistance. Her walk with Christ gives her happiness, and she was baptized to become a Seventh-day Adventist in November 2023.

Please continue to pray for Fadhlan. As God is bringing forth fruit, like Oma, many people oppose Fadhlan’s ministry. He needs prayers for courage and wisdom to face these challenges.
