God Answers Children's Prayers for Their Teacher
Periaka's marriage was not a happy one. Like many marriages in India, her husband's alcoholism severely strained their relationship. When he drank, his personality changed, and he fought with everyone. Although Periaka is a trained nurse, the only job he allowed her to take was as a teacher in one of our evening schools.
Eventually, he became so disgruntled with life that he would not allow her to teach either. Because he spent most of his money on alcohol, and she had no way to provide for herself, she sometimes had nothing to eat.
Periaka asked Brother Baskar, the evening school principal in her area, to pray for her husband to change his mind and let her work as a teacher again.
Brother Baskar prayed for Periaka's situation and later requested her husband to allow her to teach once again. Her husband agreed, and Periaka came back to teach, but Brother Baskar did not stop praying for him.
One Sunday, Brother Baskar invited all the students to fast and pray for Teacher Periaka's husband. After this prayer session, they wanted to pray for him in person, but he said no. Still, Periaka, Brother Baskar, and the students continued to pray.
Praise the Lord! Periaka's husband gradually reduced his drinking and started supporting his family again. For the past few months, he has stopped drinking entirely, and his relationship with his wife is improving. Brother Baskar regularly visits their home to pray and study the Bible. He is almost ready to make a decision for Jesus, Brother Baskar shared.
His neighbors have also noticed the great changes in him and are happy.
"It's not me," Periaka's husband can now witness to them. "It is because of the evening school, the children who prayed, my wife who prayed, the pastor who prayed. Because of that, now, I am changed." "I don't even have the desire to drink." he has said.
