Lessons of Truth
An Evening School Story
Evening School
India is home to many different religions. Hindus and Muslims make up the vast majority, with less than 5 percent Christian. Among this tiny percentage, a baby boy was born. His parents named him Gokul. They took him to the Pentecostal church, which they attended regularly. He never thought of another church until he attended our JFA evening schools.
There in school Gokul learned from his teachers more about God and what the Bible teaches about the Sabbath, the state of the dead, the sanctuary, and other truths fundamental to Seventh-day Adventists. The lessons sank deeply into his heart and he accepted the truths he heard. A desire now burned within him to share this truth with his family. But how? He recalled Bible promises such as, “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” (Psalms 32:8). He decided to pray and then consulted with Brother Baskar, one of our evening school coordinators.
Could you come home with me and speak to my mother about Jesus...?
“Brother Baskar,” he asked, “Could you come home with me and speak to my mother about Jesus and what I have been learning?”
“Of course!” Brother Baskar responded.
They set a date and prayerfully made plans to share the truth with Gokul’s family. The day arrived, and they traveled to Gokul’s home, silently praying that hearts would be open to truth. Gokul’s mother met them and invited them in.
“Sister,” Brother Baskar began, “I would like to share what Gokul has been learning about the Bible in our evening school. Everything we teach and believe is from the Bible, nothing else. Feel free to listen, study, and then go to your pastor and ask if what we are sharing is true.”
Gokul’s mother was intrigued, and thought about the offer. Finally, she said, "I will listen to what you say and see if it is true."
She studied. And studied. Then she consulted with others. She couldn't find any error.
Now, Gokul’s whole family is attending the Seventh-day Adventist church, and studying for baptism. Please pray that God will continue to lead and guide these precious souls. Also remember Brother Baskar and the other teachers/leaders at our evening schools who help students not only learn for life, but for eternity.
